Cheeseburger Egg Rolls Recipe Ingredients**

  • 1 pound ground beef (we used 92/8 but you could easily use 80/20, but 73/27 might not yield enough beef after the fat renders out)
  • 1 pinch each of salt, pepper and granulated garlic
  • 6 wonton wrappers
  • 3 slices of American cheese****
  • 6-12 pickle chips
  • 1/4 cup minced onions (optional)
  • Spray oil, we used avocado oil
  • 4 ounces of lettuce leaves
  • 4 ounces of Thousand Island dressing for dipping

**Editor’s Note ~ This is for one batch. You will likely need many more batches to satisfy the itch this heavenly dish will create inside of you and anyone in your home. Plan accordingly

****Editor’s Note Part II ~ For those of you who want to complain about American cheese, just stop. We aren’t talking about the individually packaged slices. Those are disgusting. Otherwise it’s a great mild cheese that melts really well. And none of you are asking to switch to cheddar when you order a burger at McDonald’s. If you aren’t complaining then, get off the high horse now. Rant over.

Brown the hamburger in a skillet and season with a pinch each of salt, pepper and granulated garlic:

Drain the fat from the cooked and seasoned ground beef. Use foil to collect the liquid fat:

When the fat congeals, toss it in the trash, foil and all.

First off, let’s get all our ingredients where we want them so we can assemble egg rolls en masse:

Chop the pickles and the lettuce. Don’t cut the lettuce too small. The idea is to use it to pick up the egg rolls.

The lettuce will not be inserted into the egg roll because it will get soggy in the air fryer. For those that want the crispness of the lettuce, use it to pick up the egg rolls thus placing the lettuce on the outside:

Assemble the Egg Rolls

Lay the wontons down, 6 at a time and place a half slice of American cheese on the diagonal:

Then add about 2 tablespoons of the cooked hamburger on top of each half slice of American cheese:

Top with the chopped pickles and optional onions:

In order to keep wonton wrappers from unrolling we have to use some glue. Luckily, simple tap water does the trick.

Once the ingredients are laid down onto all six wonton wrappers, fill a small cup or bowl with water and wet your fingertip with the water. Run your wet finger around the four edges of the wonton wrapper. Then fold the bottom corner toward the middle:

Then fold one of the two side corners toward the middle:

Fold the other side toward the middle and then roll the whole thing up from the bottom toward the fourth corner:

Repeat for the rest of the wontons.

Then bust out the spray oil, we used avocado oil in this cheeseburger egg rolls recipe to spray down both sides:

The oil is essential for that crispy wrapper.

Preheat the air fryer to 375 for 2 minutes.

Time to Air Fry the Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

Once the air fryer has been at 375F for 2 minutes, drop in the cheeseburger egg rolls:

Set the timer for 7 minutes, but at the halfway point (3.5 minutes) remove the egg rolls and flip them over:

Then back into the air fryer for another 3.5 minutes.

Serve with the lettuce and a small bowl of Thousand Island dressing:

Cheeseburger Egg Rolls Recipe Recap

To sum up here, we have about 10 minutes of prep, 7 minutes of cooking time and a 5 minute cool down to achieve crispy, cheesy, beefy, pickle-y, optionally onion-y, saucy and delicious fusion cheeseburger egg rolls. Think if a big mac and an egg roll had a baby and that baby got all the best attributes from both parents. And not being deep fried, it’s a lot healthier than a traditional egg roll.
